Most bands never produce a classic album in their entire careers; Radiohead churned out two in the space of three years. 1997's game-changing OK Computer challenged the very sound of alternative rock music, and Kid A continued to defy convention upon its release in October 2000. In a very deliberate attempt to distance themselves from their own established sound, the band severely limited their use of guitars, concentrating instead on strange dance beats and hypnotising synth lines, creating an intensely atmospheric and challenging album. In the words of Pitchfork reviewer Brent DiCrescenzo, comparing Kid A to its contemporary LPs is "like comparing an aquarium to blue construction paper". Decade Defining Track: The National Anthem
