50 Albums That Defined The 90's

7. You've Come Along Way Baby - Fatboy Slim 1998

Fat1 Big Beat is a pretty divisive style of music. All quirky samples and repetitive vocal lines that seem to be catchy and annoying. Fatboy Slim's second album is genre's calling card. You could not get away from the 4 singles from this record, try as you might, they just sneaked up on you, whether it be Music television, radio stations, computer games or in pubs and clubs. Norman Cook, was the bass player in the Housemartins, between 1985 and 1988, when they broke up and eventually morphed into, The Beautiful South, Cook returned to his native Brighton, to focus on his first love, Electronic Music. He had several projects, with varying success, including Beats International (remember 'Dub Be Good To Me'?) Anyway, i 1996, he adopted the pseudonym, Fatboy Slim, and released his debut a year later, which had a top 40 hit in, 'Everybody Needs a 303'. The real acclaim was still to come though. Preceding the albums release, he put out the single, 'Rockefeller Skank', and another clutch of equally catchy, but to some, annoying, hit singles. The album still comes close to the top of lists to do with the best British albums ever released.

Live and work in Aberdeen, Scotland...unfortunately. Sang in My Minds Weapon (Basick/Drakkar/Sony) for ten years (2002 - 2012) and now just tinkering with various other projects. Die hard Leeds United fan. Metalhead in my heart but also love many other genres of music. Also enjoy anything with Christopher Walken or David Caruso. Family live in Perth, Australia, so have been there many times. Best place in the world.
