50 Landmark 90s Albums

30. Pearl Jam - Ten

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OznWh_C_JDQ Despite sitting second to Nirvana in the grunge hierarchy, Pearl Jam didn't let that bother them. Ten was an outstanding album by a powerful grunge band. Led by Eddie Vedder's trademark growling vocals and Mike McCready's screaming guitar solos, Pearl Jam sounded tighter than ever - the closest they would come to perfection. Songs like "Jeremy" are extremely powerful, the band pushing the song to the brink where it sounds ready to explode, before pulling it back.

29. Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbI2TS0fW4Q Gangster rap never sounded so casual and so laid-back as it did on Snoop's fantastic debut. With his weed-soaked drawl, his partying ways and his subtle humour, Snoop wove some killer rhymes over some of Dr. Dre's finest low-riding funky beats. Some moments are serious, filled with gangland murders and mischief, while others are light-hearted and fun. From the comical theme song of "Who Am I (What's My Name)?" to the party-starting bumper "Gin and Juice," Doggystyle introduced the world to a brilliant new rapper with what will always be one of his finest albums.

28. Beastie Boys - Ill Communication

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtySKsmxuGY On Ill Communication, the Beastie Boys took the musical experimentation of Check Your Head and tightened it up, put a little shine on it, and dropped some of their best rhymes yet. Much like their previous album, the Boys combine a furious mixture of hardcore punk and thrash, with more subtle jazz stylings. Smothered in their everything-and-the-kitchen-sink lyrics, the music is ferocious, particularly the window rattling bass line that blasts "Sabotage" through the roof.

27. Daft Punk - Homework

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yca6UsllwYs Before fully discovering their robot persona's, Daft Punk were sweeping France with some of the most hypnotic and catchy house and techno music around. Blending their driving beats with blooping synthesisers, they wove in everything from hip hop and funk to seventies glam. Their enormous influence on hip-hop and popular music begins here, and would extend on through the rest of their marvellous catalog.

26. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPz21cDK7dg A brilliant record wrought with despair and discontent, Downward Spiral is industrial rock's greatest achievement. Reznor varies from tense to angry to depressed in this masterpiece. Combining furious guitars with heavy mechanic synthesisers, he captures every mood perfectly, culminating in the equally beautiful and troubling "Hurt."
