The Yeezer has been known to not only talk about himself in the third person, but acknowledge and defend it too.

He says it's because he is a brand in himself, but many think that it is indicative of narcissism and egocentrism. Sounds likely, but there could be a third explanation.

The thing is about humans, is that we tend to develop our self-awareness in a 1-2-3 way. In the beginning, we think and talk in the first person (I/me), then in the second person (you/we) and finally we begin to fully comprehend the concept of other people as separate entities, even in the abstract (they/them).

Artificial intelligence, however, almost seems to do this the other way around. Self-awareness is one of the holy grails of AI, but is very difficult to achieve. This lack of self awareness leads to systems referring to themselves in the third person - think "Windows is shutting down...".

Back in 2011, scientists at the University of Texas-Austin developed an artificial intelligence called DISCERN. It was a neural network that was made to mimic the human mind in an attempt to better understand schizophrenia. As they fed it different data, words and events, the computer got so confused that it began exclusively referring to itself in the third person, and even claimed responsibility for a terrorist attack at one point due to its inability to properly differentiate between itself and abstract entities..
