3. Homer Shake The Simpsons
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNrn-7zjmYw Cast your mind back to February when the opening few bars of this particular song by Baauer could automatically make you groan as you knew exactly what was coming. Technically a meme rather than a spoof of a music video, the viral video was so widely shared it has to have a mention. The 'Harlem Shake' literally took over the internet for weeks, with everyone from supermodels to footballers and even the Army creating their own versions. The basic concept of the 'Harlem Shake' video begins with one person dancing, usually wearing some sort of headgear, with others in the background looking nonplussed. When the music kicks in, however, the rest of the people in the video dance around erratically wearing costumes and carrying props. The strange viral video reportedly began when a group of teenagers from Queensland, Australia posted the first version on YouTube, sparking off a craze which could be recreated anywhere by anyone. The viral caused some problems and investigations have been made into versions made on aeroplanes and even in prison! The 'Harlem Shake' was a huge part of popular culture this year and who better to parody popular culture than The Simpsons. You can watch their version 'The Homer Shake', above.
