5. Black Veil Brides
This is the only band on the list that I know is a polarising choice. Many love them but some people really hate Black Veil Brides for their emo look and stage theatrics, deemed showing-off. When you look past their appearances and showmanship, which many like and appreciate, their music stands for itself. Obviously not everyone agrees with this, as they make more than evident in comment sections on Youtube, though I never understand why people feel the need to seek out a bands video to simply criticise them. Their stage theatrics, such as cutting themselves and frontman Andy Biersacks frequent injuries, could be considered intentionally eccentric or an attempt to grab headlines but I could really care less what they do live as that isnt why I listen to them. I feel like they really found their sound with their latest album Wretched & Divine: The Story of The Wild Ones. This was their third effort and it came in the form of a concept album, maybe even a rock opera, accompanied with a DVD that came together to tell the story of The Wild Ones, outcasts, who oppose the regime of F.E.A.R. The album was awesome, completely exceeding all of my modest expectations.
Even though people think they may look or act like attention-seekers, their music really is not that of the typical emo band. Heartbreak or self-hating lyrics are what weve come to expect of a typical emo band but Black Veil Brides never succumb to this stereotype and their lyrics are often smart and unique. With their first album Biersack was criticised for his tone of voice and inability to change tones but since then he has worked hard to improve in this area, though hes still no Myles Kennedy in range or pitch. While they arent the best band in the world, for one thats only been around since the late 2000s I think theyre doing a great job and are making a storm in the industry. BVB and Falling In Reverse are, for me, two of the most exciting young bands around. Some of Black Veil Brides best songs include In The End, New Religion, The Legacy, I Am Bulletproof, We Dont Belong, Fallen Angels, Resurrect The Sun, Set The World On Fire, Knives and Pens, Rebel love Song, Lost It All, Coffin and Devils Choir. Black Veil Brides are a very young band that have injected some vitality into the rock scene, whether you like them or not.
