If you haven't heard of Tim Buckley, you've almost certainly heard of his son, Jeff Buckley. Jeff Buckley is most famous for his cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, though he's regularly championed for his studio album Grace, and his incredibly memorable (and beautiful) singing voice. Before all that, however, his father Tim was writing his own eclectic mix of music, releasing a total of nine studio albums in less than a decade. When he first began releasing music, Buckley's style was mostly folk, but as his career progressed his music began to take on much more abstract elements, incorporating jazz, funk, soul and avant-garde (to name just a few of the genres Buckley dabbled in). The culmination of this experimentation was in 1970's Starsailor, during which all folk rock origins disappeared, making way something much, much stranger. Listening to Starsailor is an incredibly memorable experience because of how swiftly it all begins to make sense. Though the first song or two may seem rather formless, Buckley's gorgeous, hypnotic voice carries the listener forward, and by the time you're a few tracks in it's hard to stop listening. Not only that, but Starsailor also features Buckley's most well-known song, Song To The Siren. It's a beautiful piece of music that rewards the listener for sticking with the record.
