6. The Bugles Predicted Music Television
Video Killed The Radio Star...everybody knows it, but what everybody doesn't know is that the song wasn't written about MTV or the rise of music television. That's what everybody assumes, but the song was actually released in 1979, a whole two years before MTV played its first ever music video. It was more like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Before The Bugles', there were already a bunch of music videos out there, known quaintly as film clips. There were film clips for bands like AC/DC, The Beatles and Queen, yet these power-house artists hadn't managed to incite much of a revolution. It wasn't until The Bugles themselves decided to make a video for Video Killed The Radio Star that things began to change. It was the first to be played on MTV, and things took off from there. The song just happened to have lyrics that were completely correct regarding the coming popularity of music television.
