8 Mind-Bending Album Covers And What They Really Mean

2. Biffy Clyro €“ Puzzle

All right, I'll just cut straight to the chase. The album artwork for Biffy Clyro's Puzzle €“ released in 2007 and spawning singles Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies and Semi-Mental €“ was designed by Storm Thorgerson. Are you really that surprised? The man got around. The artwork depicts a man hunched over in a chair in the foreground. His skin is covered in jigsaw markings, and it appears as if one of the jigsaw pieces has fallen from the man, leaving a fleshy hole in his side. In the background, various figures are looking through a brightly-lit door. The artwork is thought to be a reference to the album's track Glitter And Trauma, specifically €œyour skin will break into jigsaw-shaped pieces of meat, you'll fall apart€. In the context of the song (and therefore giving the album wider meaning) the lyric is essentially referring to a person who has the potential to do something, but simply refuses (€œyou can save them all, I believe that you can, even though you never listen).
