8 Rock Bands Who Didn't Write Their Biggest Hits

4. Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing

In the aftermath of gigantic blockbusters like Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, It's hard not to remember the late 90s and early 00s as one big Michael Bay movie. The era was simply peppered with endearingly cheesy action movies filled with garbage one-liners and questionable storylines.

So it's completely within that context that 70s hard rock legends Aerosmith were approached to do the very romantic soundtrack number for a movie starring lead singer Steven Tyler's actual daughter Liv Tyler.

The song is as saccharine as the movie itself and was written by old pro Diane Warren, who has a long list of hits by Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston under her bio.

Despite the creepy subtext, it went straight to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the first and only Aerosmith single to do so. It also took Steven Tyler straight into the American Idol era and somehow made subsequent singles like Jaded and Girls of Summer (with that one extremely gross lyric) seem respectable in comparison.

But again, if it made a new generation dig out their parents' copies of Rocks and Toys in the Attic, what's wrong with it?
