8 Rock Bands Who Didn't Write Their Biggest Hits
2. Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize
Quiet Riot's story with this song is quite similar to that of Cheap Trick and The Flame. The band was initially reluctant to record it, but it eventually became a smash hit for the band.
By 1983, the band had already been around for about a decade, but they never really achieved any kind of notable commercial success. Lead singer Kevin DuBrow was so against the idea of including the cover on their album Metal Health that he tried to convince the band to do a shoddy job to convince the label not to release it.
It's not exactly clear whether those instructions were followed through on for the final recording, but the label did release it and they were fully justified when it shot up all the way to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It propelled the album to become a platinum seller and also added fuel to the rising flames of the Los Angeles hair metal scene that was about to blow up.
The song was written a full decade earlier by Slade members Noddy Holder and Jim Lea and their original version was released as a non-album single. Slade never really cracked it outside the UK before Quiet Riot's cover gave them some belated traction in the US.
The single also gave Quiet Riot the dubious honour of being included on VH1's 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders list.
