8 Underrated Albums From Your Favorite Artists

5. Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007)

The Foos had been on a hot streak with albums ever since 1997's The Colour and the Shape. However, the band had yet to shake things up on previous records; you could expect great rock ragers but not much substance underneath. This changed with 2005's In Your Honor, which featured an album of your typical Foo goodness but an extra disc with a somber acoustic mix of tracks. With this being a success, Dave Grohl made the decision to combine the acoustic and electric for their next record. The result: Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.

The record got a bit of buzz but was treated as just another solid entry from the Foo Fighters, aside from the colossal opener The Pretender. While that track is a standout on the record, other songs have an equal impact. Long Road to Ruin is one of the Foo's best singles, while Let It Die has a reflective spirit that seems directed at Grohl's ex-bandmate, Kurt Cobain.

The album shows the band's expertise of controlling dynamics. These songs may start slow, but they can build to something much more extravagant. This is no more apparent on the song But Honestly, which starts with just Grohl and a guitar, but explodes into one of the Foo's greatest riffs around the halfway point. Now you'll have something to seek out instead of just listening to The Pretender.
