9 Greatest Hoaxes In Music

6. Daft Punk Leaked A Whole Album

There was a lengthy amount of time between Daft Punk's 2005 album Human After All and 2013's Random Access Memories. In that time, fans became ravenous for any scrap of new information (this wasn't helped by the fact the band are famously reclusive).

One thing that did happen was the release of Disney's Tron: Legacy in 2010, to which Daft Punk provided the musical score. This marked the first film score the band had ever done, and received a positive reception from fans and critics (most of whom were just desperate for new material). Some time after, a collection of twelve tracks surfaced online under the name The Third Twin (an obvious reference to Daft Punk being a duo). It was reported that this material was leaked by Daft Punk itself. Apparently they were earlier recordings made for the Tron soundtrack that were ultimately rejected by Disney. Supposedly, The Third Twin name was used to navigate legal ramifications. In the end, though, The Third Twin was revealed to be merely a fan emulating Daft Punk's style, and the world was made a fool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL6ZbcY2n-8
