9 Times Manic Street Preachers Proved They Were The Most Exciting Band On The Planet
6. They Invited An Infamous Porn Star To Duet With Them
The final single from the Manics debut album Generation Terrorists was Little Baby Nothing, the band's attempt to write something the E Street Band might play according to James Dean Bradfield. A feminist anthem that details the exploitation of women by men, it was always envisioned as a duet.
The Manics first approached Kylie Minogue to sing on it, but when she declined, they turned to an entirely unlikely source. Traci Lords had made her name as a porn star, but when it emerged that she had filmed the majority of her film's underage, she became infamous. At the time of the songs recording, she was a fierce critic of the porn industry, and was therefore a perfect medium for its message. It helped that she was a surprisingly good singer, too.
Lords ended up not being in the songs video (an actress mimes her parts), which was directed by legendary NME writer Steven Wells. The only performer actually in it was James Dean Bradfield, but the promo was also notable for being the first time bubblegum pop duo Shampoo ever appeared on screen.
