A Beginners Guide To Thrash Metal

3. Slayer €“ Seasons In the Abyss €“ 1990

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQpvqPuDJWI It will shock a lot of people, Thrash fans or not, that I didn€™t include €˜Reign In Blood€™ in this list but remember this is meant to be an introduction to the genre for the uninitiated, and I personally feel that this is the best gateway album for non €“ Slayer fans. Slayer are a truly like no other band and these ten songs will show you exactly why. Tom Araya€™s vocals, Hanneman€™s (RIP) and King€™s truly evil riffs, atonal solos and lightning fast palm-muting, all kept (just) on the rails by Dave Lombardo€™s awe €“ inspiring drumming, all make Slayer, for many, the last word in Thrash Metal. From the opening assault of €˜War Ensemble€™ to the closing, MTV favourite, title track there is no letting up. Even when the pace is slowed down the music and lyrics are so full of pure brutality, that you will feel like you have to begin worshipping Satan or killing someone in a rather unpleasant manner. €˜Dead Skin Mask€™ is a night in the life of infamous sicko, Ed Gein, and €˜Born Of Fire€™ lets you know how it feels to be the son of Satan. Slayer are the most watched band by the powers that be in history...How can you top that? There is a much sought after tee-shirt that says €œ8 out of 10 serial killers listen to Slayer!€ Enough said.

Live and work in Aberdeen, Scotland...unfortunately. Sang in My Minds Weapon (Basick/Drakkar/Sony) for ten years (2002 - 2012) and now just tinkering with various other projects. Die hard Leeds United fan. Metalhead in my heart but also love many other genres of music. Also enjoy anything with Christopher Walken or David Caruso. Family live in Perth, Australia, so have been there many times. Best place in the world.
