AC/DC - EVERY Album Ranked Worst To Best
1. The Razors Edge (1990)
AC/DC had been in a slight decline since the release of 1981’s
For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), with their last three albums being
deemed mediocre at best by critics. That all changed with the release of 1990’s
The Razors Edge.
While this album didn’t have the commercial success of Highway to Hell and Back in Black, The Razors Edge showed the world that AC/DC could still rock with the best of them. Chris Slade featured as drummer on the album, his only album with the band.
The album’s debut single, Thunderstruck, sees the greatest work from both Angus Young and Brain Johnson of any AC/DC song to date. While the albums second and third singles, Moneytalks and Are You Ready, don’t have the same iconic status as Thunderstruck, they still bring some of the best performances the band has to offer.
This is continued into the album tracks, with songs such as Shot of Love, Rock Your Heart Out and If You Dare. The album’s title track, The Razors Edge, has an almost metal vibe compared to all of the band’s other songs, a unique change which surprisingly works with the band’s style. The Razors Edge also features the bands only Christmas song, Mistress for Christmas, which is without a doubt the best hard rock Christmas song to date.
The Razors Edge, while not always getting the recognition it deserves, brings some of the greatest AC/DC music to date. Johnson really takes his unique style to the next level, with the albums’ songs leaning into his vocal talent and using it to boost the energy of the album’s tracks. Since 1990, no AC/DC performance would be complete without a rendition of the fan favourite song: Thunderstuck.
