All US Number 1s From 2021 Ranked Worst To Best

13. Rapstar - Polo G

Out of the 17 songs that topped the Hot 100 in 2021, 12 debuted in the pole position, a feat which used to be rare and impressive, but has become the norm in the streaming era. Most of those debuts were long-awaited releases by top-tier stars like Drake and Taylor Swift, but every now and then a dark horse makes its way in.

Polo G was virtually unknown before Rapstar debuted at number one, prompted by a devoted fanbase. Following in the footsteps of two major hip-hop hits named Rockstar released in the last few years (by Post Malone and DaBaby), Polo embraced the more genre-appropriate title by rhapsodising about the hardships of his growing fame.

The music backing up the verses is surprisingly beautiful, and the hook catchy enough. However, the song still feels like it's been done before.
