Alter Bridge: 10 Hidden Song Details You Never Noticed

Alter Bridge? You mean One Day Remains, that sing about children's sports?

Alter Bridge
Napalm

In 2004, from the remnants of Creed came something far better.

Guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips came together with Myles Kennedy to form Alter Bridge who, over the last 16 years, have worked and worked to become one of the finest bands in the music industry today.

While Creed may have been geared more toward being able to achieve success in the mainstream, Alter Bridge became a platform for these men to create music without caring what others thought, and without having to adhere to the typical rules and tropes of the industry.

This has allowed for some of the most expressive, most game changing, and most impressive music in recent times. Through six albums, while of course there are some better than others, there aren't any genuinely bad songs to speak of. The band work incredibly hard to make sure they don't become stagnant, and that they remain the best that they can be.

Often, a lot of this work, and a lot of the details that they put into their music, go unnoticed. A look into some of these missed details and unspoken themes show that they are not just the hardest working band out there, they're also one of the most intriguing.

10. Take The Crown Is About Myles’ Childhood Tee Ball Team

The third track released off Alter Bridge's sixth and most recent album, Walk The Sky, is one of the best on the entire record. It's also one of the heaviest, as the lyrics, on first glance at least, speak about an uprising and triumph of sorts.

Myles Kennedy has since spoken about where he took inspiration from for these lyrics, and it may not be exactly where you'd expect. It's not about revolution, authority figures, or fighting against 'the man' or 'the machine', it's about a children's tee ball team.

When Kennedy was a kid, he played tee ball, and there was always one team that would come in from one town over and annihilate them. The song is about these children wanting so badly to beat this other team for once, to be victorious and to take them down.

It's incredible, and more than a little bit funny, to think an epic track such as this is about nothing more than kids playing sports. Especially when compared to some of the other things that have inspired the band's lyrics in the past.
