6. This Side Of Fate

The longest track on the album, This Side of Fate is the culmination of all four band members evolving as musicians for the past decade. A gorgeous finger-picked intro with repeated bass notes is pure Ghost of Days Gone By or Waters Rising's more subtle passages, whilst Myles overlays some soft, high-register vocals, leading into a chorus that segues into a supremely bluesy solo.

And that's only the first couple of minutes.

From there, it's a pure technical showcase, one that brings in comparisons to bands like Gojira or Mastodon - those that build a mood and lose the listener through intricate combinations of layered guitar techniques and effects.

It's worth noting that once again, producer Elvis Baskette has outdone himself. On this track in particular you can hear everything from Flip's cymbal-slams that crash throughout the extended middle break, to Myles holding one of his most impressive notes as a particular chorus comes to a close.

Listen out for: Myles tearing the roof off underneath the guitar solo at 4:33. If you liked his high notes in Breathe Again, you'll be right at home.
