Alter Bridge: The Last Hero - 13 Tracks Reviewed & Ranked
7. The Last Hero
I love final tracks on an album, don't you? There's something about knowing the band wanted to end their particular selection of songs in a specific way, that can put a nice bow on an already phenomenal body of work.
In Alter Bridge's case, this means lobbing everything including the kitchen sink at one hugely impressive piece of music. Embodying the sentiment behind the album itself (the notion of heroes, who can they be, and are there any real heroes in the world right now?) the piece fluctuates through a number of impactful moods.
Thematically, Myles reaches the same conclusion for humanity's woes as that of AB III's core message - personal redemption, self confidence and a coalition with our fellow man is the way to go. Again, many times on the album you can feel the progression of the band coming through, mixing the aspects of pure driving rock that put them on the map, with newer, learned styles that have been acquired since.
The Last Hero may not be my personal favourite song, but it's definitely one of the most memorable.
Listen out for: Scott 'Flip' Phillips' triple bass drum kick at 3:14. Its a great 'Listen up! call to arms that goes perfectly with Myles' rallying cry: "Tell me, where are the heroes?!"
