Alter Bridge's Fortress: All 13 Tracks Reviewed & Analysed

13. Outright (Bonus Track)

Just when you think it€™s over, they pull you back in! Although Outright is not part of the main body of songs, (instead it was reserved as a Best Buy exclusive over in America) as with most Alter B-Sides it€™s an excuse to just have some fun writing a more radio-friendly tune. If you were a fan of Blackbird€™s We Don€™t Care At All, you€™ll be right at home here, this time with a commanding chorus lyric from band to fan; €œOne last thing before we say goodbye, never say die€. The entire song appears to be a call to arms for any confidence-lacking self-doubters, or even just Alter acknowledging their own mortality in the face of their immortally ardent fanbase. €œHeroes slip away, yeah heroes come and go, But I hope that you can face your shadows on your own, I know you feel the end is gonna come, But you, my friend, you€™ve only just begun€ If the title track wasn€™t enough of a solid point to end the regular version of the album, Outright cements the positive energy these guys exude in spades, leaving this reviewer perfectly satiated with what€™s one of the best offerings of modern hard rock this year. Fortress perfectly interlaces all the best communal aspects of heavy metal with a production that demands volume knobs get cranked and heads banged with liberal aplomb. So have you guys checked it out? Did having a browse through this piece whet your appetite? Please dive in and tell us what you think in the comments!
