Despite the turbulent and unruly Sheffield youth life that Alex Turner was inspired by, it turns out he was an avid English student as well. Considering the poetic nature of his writing, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

One poem that took his interest as a teenager was John Cooper Clarke's poem, "I Wanna Be Yours".

"I was your typical teenager, trying to be cool and not interested and the teacher proceeded to read 'I Wanna Be Yours,'... it made my ears prick up in the classroom because it was nothing like anything I'd heard." Alex Turner, NME.

The only song in Arctic Monkey's expansive catalogue where the lyrics were penned by someone else, "I Wanna Be Yours" closes out the platinum-selling, industry-changing AM album with the poem that Turner had fell in love with when he was a teenager and had no idea where his life was heading. That's poetic.
