Are THE STONE ROSES About To Reform?
Press conference has been organised for Tuesday at 9am where Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni are reportedly going to announce comeback concerts.
According to the ever reliable Sun newspaper, Manchester based indie legends The Stone Roses are set to announce they will be reforming for two hometown gigs 15 years after they split up in 1996. The full original line-up of Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni have reportedly signed up for the comeback concerts and an official press conference has been organised by a major record company for this coming Tuesday at 9am to make an announcement in London. Formed in 1983 before hitting the big time in 1989 with their incomparable self titled debut album it was another 5 years before they released The Second Coming to a decidedly mixed reaction from fans and critics alike, leading eventually to their split two years later after a shambolic appearance at the Reading Festival. Ian Brown went on to a successful solo career releasing six solo albums, John Squire also continued a career in music with two solo albums before quitting to focus on his first love, art. Mani has enjoyed a prolific few years playing bass for Primal Scream and Reni has remained largely out of the public eye since he left the band in 1995. Since their break-up speculation has been rife that the band would eventually get together again but such rumours were always dismissed by all members of the band in particular Brown and Squire who have barely spoken in the last 15 years. It was reportedly six months ago, when all the members of the band were spotted together at Manis mothers funeral, where it seems they may have put their differences aside to give music fans the news they are waiting for. 
Reni added fuel to the rumour earlier today by sending a cryptic message to NME.com, he wrote; Not before 9T will I wear the hat 4 the Roses again.Leading many fans to interpret 9T as meaning 9am on Tuesday. After several recent reunions for British bands such as Blur, Pulp and Suede that have all proven to be massive successes could it really be on the cards for The Stone Roses to get their act together and make a return to the stage and would they stop at just two gigs? If it does happen will it open the floodgates for more bands to reform such as The Smiths, The Jam, Oasis? I suppose we need to put it in perspective, nothing is confirmed at this stage and it may all be nothing more than another fruitless rumour but there is still the hope that it might happen someday.
