2. Abbey Road (1969)
Best Song: Come Together Worst Song: Maxwell's Silver Hammer The last album the Beatles recorded together as a band. The album cover for Abbey Road is the most parodied album cover of all time, with tourists recreating the famous image on a daily basis on the famous zebra crossing out front of Abbey Road Studios. The band could all feel that this was the last album, and wanted to make it one of the best recording they had done. The album opener "Come Together" lead by Lennon was a strongly politically song. Lennon's witty lyrics involved him poking fun at his own band mates while backed by swamp like bass. Harrison followed with the iconic love song acoustic "Something". Excelling in his songwriting Harrison continues on a high with the feel good "Here Comes the Sun". Lennon, McCartney and Harrison sung as a trio on "Because", the three part harmony was recorded on a triple track, which multiplied their voices to sound like nine. Abbey Road ends in a climactic medley of short songs blended into suite by McCartney. "You Never Give Me Your Money" begins the medley, with McCartney complaining over the bands management. In completing the medley McCartney contributed three tracks "Golden Slumbers", "Carry That Weight", and "The End" ending the Abbey Road the medley with some of the bands wisest words of wisdom "and in the end , the love you take is equal to the love you make"
