1. "Schoolin' Life" (4)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAmnkPUFMHg Easily the best bonus track that Beyonce's ever put out for general consumption, the fan favourite 'Schoolin Life' is the biggest disappointment of the album in that it wasn't immediately queued for a single release, complete with glamorous bright video. 'Schoolin Life' is more than your average poppy track, being embued with both a serious and thoughtful outlook on life and yet some of the most fun, bright and catchy beats she's ever put her name to. In the song, Beyonce rattles through the key stages of life, moving from her precocious pre-teen and teenage years through to the decades beyond as well as addressing some things. It's almost a retrospective on her life so far and yet it's incredibly universal - Beyonce is only just into her early thirties and yet she's looking forward to the years beyond when things generally settle down. She's also calling on her followers and her fans and everyone else to both accept their lives and be grateful. There's also a cheeky nod to her critics who have previously critiqued her with her lack of college education. Ultimately 'Schoolin Life' is a big joyous celebration and summarisation of Beyonce's career and life up to that point - she's had her daughter, has her supportive husband and rocking the world stage like nobody's business. The track is a big pop delight and one that would have been absolutely perfect when the summer rocked around, particularly for the college and high school students venturing out into the world. Still, we can always enjoy it for what it is - a fantastic gem on a fantastic album, one which deserved single status. We can always dream, right?
