Bloodstock Festival 2018: 10 Things We Learnt

7. Fozzy Are An Unstoppable Party Band

Among casual followers, Fozzy enjoy an unfair reputation as “that band that that wrestler bloke is in”. However, once the initial “Oh my God, that’s Chris Jericho!” reaction is stripped away, what is left is an anthem-dispensing quintet that knows how to put on a damn good show!

The proof is in the pudding, as they say. On the Sunday of Bloodstock, Fozzy convinced an immense gathering of almost 18,000 extreme metalheads to lighten up a little and dance along to party-starting rock tracks like “Burn Me Out”, “Judas” and “Do You Wanna Start a War?”. Despite owing more to Van Halen, AC/DC and Mötley Crüe than to Slayer or Morbid Angel, Fozzy were still able to work Bloodstock into a riotous frenzy, thanks to both catchy songs and Chris Jericho’s charismatic stage presence.

The frontman was unstoppable on the massive Ronnie James Dio Stage, happily leaping into the crowd, stealing film cameras, climbing stupidly high things, starting up “Fozzy!” chants whenever he could and generally just being Chris f—king Jericho.

As the five-piece continue to ride high off their 2017 hit record Judas, now is the best possible time for observers to let go of the fact that a wrestler started a band and instead dive head-first into some tasty jams.
