Coldplay: The Best Song On Each Studio Album

5. Hurts Like Heaven - Mylo Xyloto

Coldplay's sound shifted significantly in their next album, Mylo Xyloto. They heavily embraced electronica, something they hadn't yet explored deeply, and it paid off. The songs they produced still held their style intact and replicated similar feelings from their previous albums, but it felt fresh and exploratory.

The perfect blend of old and new sound comes through most clearly in Hurts Like Heaven. Will Champion's energetic drumming still remains, and Jonny Buckland's guitar performance is creative like always.

Chris Martin sings with heart, belting out lyrics that detail feelings of being shut out, silenced, and missing out on life. The negativity doesn't last long, though, as the lyrics then portray the excitement and hopefulness of finding yourself or falling in love. It paints a lovely picture of the joy people can find in the world even when facing difficulty.

Love is very much at the center of this song and the entire album, and is something Coldplay has long been spreading. It's hard not to have a positive emotional reaction to this type of work. When people connect so positively to their music and message it becomes clear to see how Coldplay has remained relevant for so long.
