Download Festival 2013: 13 Things You Should Be Listening To Right Now!

7. Chthonic

melodic death metal/black metal/traditional Taiwanese folkdownload festival From the Greek; chthonios €“ in, under, or beneath the earth, it usually pertains to spirits and deities of the underworld in Greek mythology, and religion. However, this Chthonic was made in Taiwan and is in fact a five piece who deal in a blend of melodic death metal, symphonic black metal, folk and traditional Taiwanese music. The band use their incredibly accessible take on melodic death and black metal as a basis for storytelling and ancient history; their lyrics embrace those traditional black metal themes of folklore and mythology focussing on bringing attention to those of Taiwan especially, including tragic events in Taiwan€™s history, but the band also immerse themselves lyrically and personally in political activism €“ supporting women€™s rights, animal rights, Taiwanese independence and human right among other things. This has even resulted in being banned from playing and visiting certain areas of China. However, Download welcomes them with open arms and ears €“ you should too. http://youtu.be/a5z-AOdCAx8
