Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP 2 - All 15 Tracks Analysed

10. Stronger Than I Was

Certainly one of the album's most interesting tracks, 'Stronger Than I Was' is written from the perspective of Kim Mathers, Eminem's ex-wife, the mother of his daughter, Hailie, and the subject of various past tracks. On it, Eminem experiments with flat-out singing, something which hasn't always worked out well for him in the past. It kind of works here, however, and provides more evidence that perhaps Eminem does have the capacity to grow as a musician and experiment with different sounds.

11. The Monster

Every Eminem album features at least one track which is clearly intended to gain widespread radio play and serve as a hit single. In this case, it is 'The Monster'. The track features pop superstar Rihanna, marking their fourth collaboration, after their previous efforts: 'Love the Way You Lie', 'Love the Way You Lie Part II' and 'Numb'. Over the years, Rihanna has solidified her place as the industry's go-to-girl for a collaboration. If you want to sell a vast number of singles, put Rih-Rih on your song. As their previous work demonstrates very well. Although it is less of an obvious mainstream success than 'Love the Way You Lie' was, it has already been chosen as the album's fourth single and will no-doubt attract a significant amount of attention from DJ's around the world.

12. So Far...

Another track which openly pays tribute to hip hop from years gone by, 'So Far...' features one of the best beats on the album, and samples Joe Walsh's 'Life's Been Good'. It is a fresh-sounding track, unlike anything Eminem has done before, and his flow is exceptional, even if the lyrical content is sometimes a little nonsensical and lacking in focus. Also worth noting that it features one of the best references to the original Marshall Mathers LP, as halfway through it samples a particularly memorable section of 'The Real Slim Shady'.
