Eurovision 2018: 9 Other Hungarian Bands You Should Hear
6. Kelenføld
Pop rock/folk rock
FFO: Alcoa, Train
Despite having roots dating back to 2010, Kelenføld only came to be at the start of 2017. Vocalist György Balaton and guitarist Tamás Fehér played in a series of high school bands in their youth but it wasn't until meeting bassist Sebestyan Nagy and drummer Dániel Pass following a move to Budapest for the band's origins to begin taking shape.
With a secure line-up, the band soon released their debut EP Pszichológus (Psychologist) before releasing the single Október (err.. October) the following month in preparation for their inaugural full length. The time finally came the following May as Kelenføld released their folk-tinged pop rock debut, Repülőgépek (Airplane).
Musically, the band opt for simpler, chord-driven ballads complimenting Fehér's effects-laced guitar work as opposed to long, winding guitar solos. Balaton explains that most of the band's rhythmic brunt and aggression then comes from the drums and bass.
Campfire music at its best, Kelenføld are currently promoting their new album with a series of shows in and around Budapest.
