Every Arctic Monkeys Album Ranked Worst To Best
1. AM
While admittedly a change in direction from their humble Sheffield origins, something which has attracted its fair amount of backlash since its release, AM launched Arctic Monkeys into the stratosphere with a slick new sound that saw the band embrace more catchy pop anthems while not betraying their indie roots.
After trickling out sleeper hit 'R U Mine?' as a teaser for their fifth studio album, their second hit got everyone's attention with that hair-raising guitar riff which became iconic seemingly overnight. 'Do I Wanna Know?' may have reached the point of no return as it has been played to death but everyone remembers where they were when they first heard that gentle intro which slowly transforms into a deafening crescendo.
Its hit rate of tracks is unmatched from the mellow 'No. 1 Party Anthem' to the more poppy 'Snap Out of It' before closing with the beautiful yet haunting 'I Wanna Be Yours'. Only Alex Turner could get away with essentially putting a beat to a fairly downbeat poem by one of his idols - John Cooper Clarke - and speak-singing his way through it. A classic album which may never be topped by the band.
