Every Beatles Album's Opening Track Ranked From Worst To Best

10. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

In 1967, The Beatles released an album that would change the world.

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was the climax of all the experimentation and broadening the band had been doing over the past few years. Once it was out, there could be no denying that The Beatles were now the cultural force to be reckoned with.

It starts off with one of its two title tracks, which is Paul McCartney playing the role of ringmaster. He announces to the audience that their favourite band is about to take to the stage, which is accompanied by all sorts of whoops and cheers.

Sgt. Pepper’s sets the stage for the entire album. Well, it would have if the lads had stuck to their own concept for more than two songs.

Whilst it’s a lot of fun and a precursor of things to come, the song doesn’t really work on its own. It feeds directly into With a Little Help From My Friends, so if you’re listening to it in isolation, it’ll just cut off at the end.

It’s not even really a song; more of a musical skit to set the tone. However, as far as those go, you couldn’t ask for much better.
