Every Bob Dylan Album Ranked Worst To Best
2. Highway 61 Revisited (1965)
Highway 61 opens with the snarling, anthemic Like A Rolling Stone, which has a strong claim to be seen as Bob Dylan's greatest song. But - unlike, say, Knocked Out Loaded - this peak Dylan record is much more than its most famous tune, and manages over nine songs to continuously keep up with the lofty heights of its opener.
Dylan tells stories with historical figures and no concept of time in Tombstone Blues, and he laments about the possibilities of life in the title track. He then ties it all together with perhaps the greatest album opener ever recorded, and a harmonica solo so fierce in the searing Desolation Row that it's impossible not to marvel at the man's immeasurable talent and the confidence of his work.
