Every Good Charlotte Album Ranked Worst To Best

6. Generation RX

Placing Generation RX in second last spot may seem harsh, but this isn't a "new Good Charlotte sucks" article.

Benji said it's the band's "most cohesive body of work" to date, and it's hard to disagree.

“I know every band say it about their latest one, but I genuinely believe this is the best record we’ve ever made. It’s the most cohesive body of work.”

This feels like a departure at times which is no bad thing. Bands evolve, sounds change - and stagnating is much worse than changing.

GC's 2018 offering feels like a band doing what they want to do. Less punk, more pop-verging-on-power-rock - but Joel Madden's vocal melodies are the hero.

There are some weak spots but, seven albums in, we can forgive a band for not putting out a flawless album.

Shadowboxer and Actual Pain are only handicapped by Good Charlotte being's experience. While "over-produced" may sound harsh, the tracks would benefit from being more raw. The catch is "old" Good Charlotte wouldn't put out such a diverse album.

The evolution brings yet another unusual cameo in the form of Architects' Sam Carter on Leech - a decent track that sadly feels shoe-horned in.

The best part of Generation Rx is it feeling like a band doing what they want, not what they think we want.

We may reassess this article down the line. For now, it's a victim of the love we have for its predecessors - but gives the band momentum and leaves a feeling the next offering will be even better.
