Every Good Charlotte Album Ranked Worst To Best

2. Good Morning Revival

To call the gap between before Good Morning Revival a "hiatus" seems exaggerated now, but the band did switch drummers, take a break and change their sound.

Guitarist Billy Martin transformed into a keyboard player and the band shrugged off their rock and pop punk labels to deliver fusions of new wave and hip-hop.

“I feel like when everybody wanted us to do another record like the one we’d just done, we found a way to make a record we’d never made.” - Joel Madden

The band supported Justin Timberlake after the release of singles The River, Keep Your Hands Off My Girl and Dance Floor Anthem, but the album didn't have the commercial success of its predecessors.

The true charm of Good Morning Revival is in its variety and maturity, with guitar work reminiscent of Linkin Park's Meteora.

The eponymous intro transitions fluently into Misery; a track with the familiarity of Good Charlotte vocals, but an introduction to the band's new style.

Heaviest track The River features M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, while Dance Floor Anthem is Ronseal. With four wall-to-wall singles, the first half is instantly familiar.

One critique might be that people just listen to the first half on repeat, but Victims of Love, Where Would We Be and Break Apart Her Heart feel like an EP alone, while Broken Hearts Parade provides the catchiest song and March On is a triumphant crescendo.

The album, again, received a "mixed reaction" - which is maybe the only constant among Good Charlotte albums.
