Exit The Excrement: A Guide To REAL Australian Music

Special Mention: Karnivool (Progressive Rock/Perth)

Karnivool, Plugged In Landscape 100pdi 112555

Ian Kenny €“ lead vocals (1997€“present) Andrew 'Drew' Goddard €“ lead guitar, backing vocals (1997€“present) Jon Stockman €“ bass guitar (2000€“present) Mark Hosking €“ guitar, backing vocals (2003€“present) Steve Judd €“ drums (2004€“present)

Although this Perth quartet could be considered example number one in my critique of the current Australian music industry, after 15+ years (far too long) of paying their dues on the live scene they are FINALLY getting the mainstream recognition they deserve. Their third album (yes third), "Asymmetry" has garnered several ARIA nominations including "Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album" and "Best Australian Live Act." Although considering I myself have played with and supported them WAY back in the year 2000 as part of a band that had an awfully similar sounding name (who would've thought, great minds think alike, ha), not to mention have gathered quite the following, most notably in their home town of Perth in Western Australia, I hardly think this could be classed as a win for the Australian Music Industry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_E5ae9ZTwk Especially considering some of the absolute garbage they have presented to the world as the best we had to offer in this time period. Any other country it would have taken Karnivool a 1/3 of the time. I mean, seriously Australia, wake up.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
