Fall Out Boy: Ranking Every Album From Worst To Best

3. From Under The Cork Tree

Fall Out boy
Island

While this is probably the last Fall Out Boy album that could be firmly placed in the category of pop-punk, From Under the Cork Tree certainly doesn't shy away from its bigger rock star ambitions.

The choruses are meatier, the hooks are spicier, and the songs have more individual flavor to them than Take This To Your Grave. And for the first time, we can hear the possibility of a Fall Out Boy song being played in a stadium, rather than a basement or club.

Don't get me wrong, it's not as if they all of a sudden ditched their roots in favor of the U2 life, but 'Dance, Dance' - which has more interesting nooks and crannies than the whole of TTTYG - clearly has a different target audience in mind.

"Hello, MTV? It's Fall Out Boy. Are you guys still playing music videos? Because if so, do we have the song for you..."

Yet, you can't help but appreciate how incremental the changes in their sound are. For lack of a less obnoxious word, Cork Tree really does feel like an organic growth for Fall Out Boy. They still appeased their hardcore loyalists - 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles' sounds a little like a sequel to 'Grand Theft Autumn' - while delving into some interesting dynamics as well.

Album Standout: 'Dance, Dance'
