http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4NRuIR-9FY 'Wasting Light' was a fantastic record, but it was one that captured a moment in time - after years of ever slickening sheens and rising stadium ticket sales, it was time for the Foos to get back to basics. You can't get back to basics twice in succession. More of the same will not ring quite as true. As exhilarating as it was to see a band get back in touch with their roots, it would be great to see some acoustics and pianos find their way back into the mix. The band has experimented with this before. 'Statues' from the 'Echoes' album showed off an Americana twang that was very impressively done, and a revisitation of such territory under more rocking circumstances would be very welcome indeed. I'm not sure that the same album's flirtation with orchestral manouveres would be equally as wise, as the album closer 'Home' was rather insipid. Still, there is no reason why a Foos album should rock your face off from start to finish with no let-up. The band are not young men ready to trash your house party anymore, and I daresay not many of their fans are either. 2014 promises to be a big year for the group, as one of the few truly rocking rock bands left in the mainstream prepare to take their crown back.
