7. Time Table (Foxtrot, 1972)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DJVfgXi57o "Time Table", from the band's fourth album, "Foxtrot", is a beautiful piano composition written solely by Tony Banks which explains the shift from Gabriel's story based lyrics to Banks' introspective meanderings. The chorus is the plaintive cry of a man seeking answers that cannot be grasped in finite terms and the accompanying music, while melodically pastoral in the verse, finds its tension there as well. The track seems at odds with the grand story telling found on "Foxtrox" with the likes of "Watcher of the Skies" and the twenty-two plus minute "Suppers Ready" dominating the proceedings. "Foxtrot" was Genesis' first taste of commercial success with the album breaking into the UK top twenty an peaking at number twelve.
