Iron Chic - "The Constant One" Album Review: All 11 Tracks Analyzed

5. Prototypes €“ Iron Chic slam on the gas and showcase some impressive, high speed musicianship on song five, "Prototypes." The album's low end wallop greatly aids "Prototypes," imbuing the song with a visceral wildness, thrashing harder than any song in the band's catalogue. The band injects highly skilled instrumental flourishes into the sprinting song, with a tremolo picked guitar run and two thunderous drum rolls enthralling the listener before the song transitions into a brilliant, strumming coda. "Prototypes" is a heart pounding album highlight. 6. Spooky Action At A Distance €“ For the sixth spot, the band import, "Spooky Action At A Distance," from April's Spooky Action EP, into the middle section of The Constant One. The album highlight of that EP is only strengthened here, thanks to the more muscular production. Unfortunately, because of the excellent company it shares on The Constant One, "Spooky Action At A Distance" falls just short of being a highlight on its new album. The song still ranks among the best on The Constant One, and features one of the best choruses on the album where Lubrano sings, "I'm biting my tongue now/ some things can't be said aloud / from my lips to your ears / you'll only see through me / see into the real me." 7. Sounds Like A Pretty Brutal Murder €“ The Constant One takes a small step back on "Sounds Like A Pretty Brutal Murder," which stands as a competent but unimaginative mid-album song that does little to add to the record. Aside from being virtually indistinguishable from a number of similar songs the band has produced in the past, the only real crime track seven commits is not living up to the high standard of the six songs that came before it.
