Lady Gaga - ARTPOP Track By Track Album Review

14. Gypsy

While the mood is still low, Lady GaGa follows Dope with Gypsy. It starts off with just GaGa and her piano, her vocals sounding especially strong, before the Edge Of Glory-style chorus comes in, and with it so do the synthesisers and drum beats we have come to expect from Lady GaGa's music. With Dope and Gypsy she has obviously saved some of her strongest tracks for the end of the album. The lyrics of Gypsy talk about how Lady GaGa doesn't "want to be alone forever", conflicted with the idea of how she "loves a gypsy life", and it's nice to once again see a more emotional side to her. Tracks like Mary Jane Holland and Donatella are great, of course, but it's refreshing to know that underneath the outfits and wigs GaGa is still a human with real feelings.

15. Applause

And we've arrived at the end! Exactly why Applause was picked as lead single when there are so many better songs on ARTPOP is unclear, but it is a nice enough song even if the lyrics in the verses don't always make perfect sense. It was also a nice idea to have Applause close the album as it seems to nicely sum up Lady GaGa In summary: If you take ARTPOP for what it is, a collection of some of the best pop songs Lady GaGa has created yet, then it's a very enjoyable album even if there are inevitably a few songs that we could do without. It ranges from real pop gems (Venus MANiCURE, Applause) to over-the-top theatrics (Aura, Mary Jane Holland) and, most surprisingly of all, some really touching moments (Dope, Gypsy). To anyone with even a slight interest in Lady GaGa, then ARTPOP is certainly worth checking out, as it is potentially her best work yet.
