Lana Del Rey: Her Best 10 Songs

1. Cola

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVlDbX6zOQU The number one is... Well, a song that has been dismissed as too smutty and slutty to be taken seriously, but listen again and all will become clear. So let's start from the beginning to explain why this is Lana's piece de resistance. The music tells the story, the strings at the start tell you that this is an incredibly serious piece of music - it sounds like Tim Burton's favourite composer Danny Elfman. Yes, it starts with a lyric comparing her nether regions to Pepsi Cola, but once that's out of the way, we move onto the now classic Lana themes, her dad, desire to be adored and unquestioned object of devotion and the fact that escaping and having fun is actually one of the best things anyone can do. There is angst 'Harvey's in the sky with diamonds and he's driving me crazy', but the finale is what Lana is all about 'Don't treat me rough, treat me really nicely'.' So, why should you love Lana Del Rey? She has the best tunes and words, she doesn't shout loud too about the fact, anyone from can listen to these songs and feel 'I've found my agony aunt/bessie' (delete where appropriate). Oh, and she's the most underrated artist on the planet. Fact.

What makes music fantastic? Star quality, amazing music, breathtaking lyrics and the ability to bring something new to the table, even if that means a new take on the classics. That's what I love to listen to and write about. As well as writing for What Culture, I occasionally write a blog http://tedney.blogspot.co.uk and sometimes use Twitter, but sparingly @TedneyNash
