2. Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe3irz-bDAk One of the most annoying things about this song is that it's impossible to find the original version on YouTube. Let's not dwell on that too much because that tells the story of who Bob Dylan (or his management) are today, rather than what this song stood for. So, out of all the Bob Dylan songs from the 60's, why this one? Well the 60's were all about construction building the future of music, and what Bob Dylan did was to embrace the possibilities in front of him, if technology and amplifiers could make his songs sound better, then why not use them? This wasn't Woody Guthrie confronted with a 4 track recorder, but a timeless songwriter who wanted the best tools for the job. And just listen to the howling anger in those words, Dylan always sounded haughty and arrogant, and rightly so, but this is the sound of complete disappointment and let down. "How does it feel? To be on your own? Like a compete unknown? Like a rolling stone?" This song uses beat poetry, country and rock to create a whole that had never been formed before and unquestionably provided Dylan with the perfect platform to show everyone else how it's done. Listen to John Lennon's 'Give peace a chance' and wonder how he would have got there without this as the blueprint. Not only that, he showed that folk music could literally be an electric experience, without which we would have no Neil Young, no Bruce Springsteen, no... The list is endless.

What makes music fantastic? Star quality, amazing music, breathtaking lyrics and the ability to bring something new to the table, even if that means a new take on the classics. That's what I love to listen to and write about.
