16. Love Andmoreagain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTFSZ-fMxiw In Arthur Lee, Love had a lead singer and songwriter who could match any of his peers for words, melodies or tunes, and although he was a little bonkers to say the least, well what genius's aren't? This song is from their masterpiece 'Forever Changes' and 'Andmoreagain' is a perfect song of the 60's and a landmark one. Whilst their contemporaries were increasingly writing about politics and the political movements of the times 'Andmoreagain' told its story away from the whole feeling of euphoria or revolution, it focused on the self and the intimacy of day to day relationships. It meshed the simple sentiment of 'Ticket to Ride' with a sophisticated baroque arrangement, bringing strings and brass into the music but mixing them into a soulful, intimate, rather than bombastic setting. It showed how to write a song that transcended and mirrored its age, a perfect song of heartbreak, alienation and discovery; this is the musical equivalent of 'The Catcher in the rye'. If you have a spare afternoon coming up then read that book whilst listening this on repeat in the background. Love did exactly what they said on the tin, they wrote love songs, which were right up there with any love songs written in the decade, and this is the best of them all.

What makes music fantastic? Star quality, amazing music, breathtaking lyrics and the ability to bring something new to the table, even if that means a new take on the classics. That's what I love to listen to and write about.
