4. Legacy
Cobain's death brought about the end of the band, but Nirvana continued to influence popular music far beyond 1994. The band opened the door for rock musicians to achieve mainstream success and Cobain became the voice of a generation; his every word dissected and psycho-analyzed. Nirvana's three studio albums still sound incredibly fresh today, which perhaps demonstrates how far ahead of their time they really were. Meanwhile, Nirvana's 'MTV Unplugged' album is often mentioned alongside the great live albums in musical history, which is a testament to the band's talents and Cobain's talent for performing the songs. Many bands and artists have clearly been inspired by Nirvana and some have even tried to replicate them, but Nirvana, despite their huge mainstream success, despite the amount of time that has passed since the band's demise and despite the analysis of all things Cobain, have managed to somehow retain their uniqueness of sound. Perhaps that's the most impressive thing of all.
