Mark Tremonti's 10 Best Guitar Solos

9. I Know It Hurts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B32wxFP-rAQ At the time this was the most complicated solo Mark had put together to date on third album AB III, and one that to this day many fans struggle to replicate. AB III was the album that secured what second album Blackbird had suggested; Alter Bridge were very much a completely different beast than that of Creed, and although there were occasional moments of technicality in the form of the hand-positions necessary for the likes of Inside Us All's intro, Tremonti was stepping up his game considerably with every subsequent AB album. This piece just fires out of the gate, leaping off Myles' brilliant chorus line and straight into another established technique that gets injected full of extra Tremonti-juice. Following some raucous bends that have come to define his playing style, the hardest part here is a fretboard-spanning legato run that jumps across multiple positions at the apex of the solo, sounding like some runaway creature bursting to be free that finally gets reigned in again at the very end. It's one of those completely mind-blowing 'I didn't realise human fingers could move that fast!' moments you only get with the best people behind the instrument, and another that only the most dedicated fans have been able to replicate.
