Metallica: 10 Best Songs You Haven't Heard
4. All Within My Hands (Acoustic Version)
Man, that St. Anger album huh? Metallica's eighth studio album has been a source of confrontation and discussion ever since its release in 2003.
Ridiculed for its now infamous snare, the lack of guitar solos, a drop in song-writing quality, and the furore behind the album getting released in the first place, both the fans and the band had largely condemned the album to the point of obscurity in their live performances. From 2006-2017, songs from the album were played live a total of 35 times. "Spit Out the Bone" has been played 57 times in a third of the time.
However, since 2018, the album has had a small resurgence in Metallica's live repertoire and has amassed an unlikely cult following.
Whilst "Frantic" and "St. Anger" largely remain the same when performed, "All Within My Hands" has been rewritten to be a more country folk song. Re-debuted in 2018 at the AWMH Masonic show, the song is a far cry from its former metallic snare self and lends itself nicely to its new acoustic surroundings.
Its new identity is evolved further when it gets performed live with a backing orchestra as part of the S&M2 shows in 2019.
