Metallica: 6 Reasons They're Undeniably Better Than Megadeth
4. Greater Live Shows And Global Tour Dominance
Most bands first make their living touring relatively non-stop across the country, and then across the world. This can go on for months, years, or even decades. But after making a name for themselves whilst slugging it out in the trenches on the local roads, most bands then take to global touring, headlining their own world tours to make their real money. This is the case for both Metallica and Megadeth, but again it's a category where there is little direct competition between the two. Aside from all the total specific touring figures throughout their entire careers, I can give you one piece of information regarding Metallica's success on the road that will close this entry in a nutshell: their last tour, called the World Magnetic Tour, took them across the globe and back again, to the tune of over $215 million dollars. That's in the top 20 ALL TIME for concert tours to date. http://youtu.be/DQ_qkYEyOyU?t=3m8s Their respective live shows are beyond comparison as well: Metallica with the full theatrical onslaught for the senses, filling arenas and amphitheaters worldwide; and Megadeth, with not much more than a light show to go along with their still-impressive musical catalog. Megadeth was never meant to be THAT band: the one that took over the world, regardless of their overall hopes. Mustaine has been forced to settle for modest amphitheater shows and festival gigs throughout Europe on an annual basis, whereas Metallica can completely sell out a full stadium, even on multiple dates on their own bill, in mere minutes. Even as recently as this year, Megadeth is back on the road, playing small theatre venues that seat right around several hundred people. But Metallica, well...one of the last gigs they played was in Antarctica. So, you do that math. http://youtu.be/gmasbT0GGT0
