Hardwired was the first single released for the album, and was reportedly completed in just a week.
Fans have been incredibly lukewarm on this one ever since its August release, and while hardly a classic, it's still a solid enough opener, if perhaps disadvantaged because it's roughly half the length of every other song on the album.
The rhyming chorus lyrics ( "We're so f***ed"/"S*** out of luck") are ultra-cheesy and unimaginative, but it's a fast-paced, intense opener, even if it's not quite the barnstorming title track you'd hope for.
Not quite coasting, but just a bit on the generic side and very Metallica-lite.
