MF DOOM teamed up with the artist Jneiro Jarel to create the duo JJ DOOM. Their album, Key To The Kuffs is much less of a concept album than DOOM's other work, relying much more on social commentary.

Many of the lyrics (in songs such as Banished) reference DOOM being refused reentry to the US after completing his European tour. This event greatly impacted DOOM's life and you can hear how annoyed he is through his lyrics.

This album has a few issues, the main one being that most of the instrumentals are slightly repetitive. The beats fit DOOM's style but lack the originality and catchiness of his previous work. Many of the vocals also lack the humour we've come to see from DOOM, choosing instead to go for a more serious tone. Also, much like BORN LIKE THIS, Key To The Kuffs lacks a main theme to tie the album together. This is not absolutely necessary but it helps the album feel more like a cohesive project and less like just a collection of songs. All in all though, still a great album.
